Since receiving BFA and MFA degrees from the University of Chicago, Lelde Kalmite has exhibited her work in Chicago, the Midwest and Europe. She has worked as a teacher and nonprofit arts administrator, and currently serves as curator at the Bridgeport Art Center. In recent years, an ominous quality has been working its way into her imaginary landscapes, reflecting human exploitation and destruction of the natural environment - the air, water and soil - that threaten the very future of our world. This attitude toward nature could be seen as the greatest criminal tradition of all.
